Problem creating hierarchies for a variation in MOSS 2007

 I was getting the error on a client site - No Variation Root Web has been set - Hierarchies cannot be created until the variation root web is set

After a bit of research i found the below link:

The error means that the root web has lost its relationship to the other variations

 

You need to reset the relationship correctly for the root web.

 

First locate the hidden relationships list

http://rootsite/relationships list/allitems.aspx

 

Then you need to find the root web relationship which should always have the guid F68A02C8-2DCC-4894-B67D-BBAED5A066F9

 

i created a new personal view on the list and set it to view only items with a GroupID containing F68A02C8 and this view found the root web relationship with the above guid

 

when i found it this relationship had the rootweb set top (http://) i changed this to http://myrootsite and set the title to "Root Web" and saved.

 

Then i went back to variation labels, created my new label and clicked create hierarchies and no more error!
